Is Acupuncture painful or unsafe?

Treatments should be performed by a qualified, licensed practitioner. Licensed acupuncturists insert sterile disposable needles safely. Insertion of the slender, disposable needles often goes unnoticed. During the treatment, the patient may feel tingling, warmth or heaviness, all indications that qi is being activated. Sometimes, qi can be felt moving to different parts of the body. Most patients describe the treatment as relaxation. Sensations range from nothing to mild tingling, numbness and a dull ache, and electrical pulsations. Needles remain in place for 15-30 minutes, allowing the patient to feel deep relaxation.
